The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. People who have the flu often feel some or all of the following signs and symptoms:
Fever or feeling feverish/chills (it’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever)
Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle or body aches
Fatigue (very tired)
Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the best way to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year. Our Lady of the Lake Physician Group clinics are equipped with flu shots to help keep you and your family protected against the flu virus this season.
